Colleen and Richard began together in Pure Breed dogs in 1974. However Richard’s association with Collie Roughs and Curly Coated Retrievers began as a young boy when his mother showed dogs.
When Colleen and Richard moved from Melbourne to Wallan where there was more time and space for dogs, an all consuming passion began. Their first involvement was puppy walking a German Shepherd for the National Guide Dogs Association and a German Shepherd dog for the Victorian Police Force.
They then purchased their first German Shepherd dog (click here for photos) and started Obedience Training and then the show-ring. Two more German Shepherd's followed and then Bearded Collies in 1978.
Although they have successfully campaigned Pekingese and Rhodesian Ridgebacks (click here). Bearded Collies remain the breed that has dominated their dog activities. (to read more about the breed click here)
They have successfully titled 32 champions and breed over 80 dogs/bitches that have attained their titles in Australia, New Zealand, Malaysia and America.
Colard Kennels still holds the breed record in Australia for the most Best in Shows, All Breeds and Speciality,
They achieved 31 BIS with one dog alone. Home bred, he was CH Colard Eastern Moon, known by all as ET (click here to read more about him). Many more of their Bearded Collies have attained All Breeds and Speciality BIS.
Colleen and Richard have taken great care in developing their kennels blood lines by importing quality stock from the United States, UK and New Zealand. They have thought carefully about how they can enhance their blood line to produce and maintain the highest quality bearded collies.
Taking their love of dogs to another level, Colleen and Richard are licensed judges with extensive international judging experience. Colleen is licensed to judge Working Dogs (Herding) and Richard is licensed to judge Terriers, Gun Dogs (Sporting), Hounds and Working Dogs (Herding). To read more click here.
